Kaiser Permanente Washington receives highest honor from Special Olympics Washington

Kaiser Permanente Washington received the Golisano Health Leadership Award from Special Olympics Washington. The award recognizes our dedication as a health champion and our commitment to support the movement to better the health of Special Olympics Washington athletes. It’s the highest honor for health partners of Special Olympics.

The award distinguishes health champions that are making a significant contribution to equal access to health, fitness, and wellness for people with intellectual disabilities. It also promotes awareness for the progress and extraordinary efforts toward fulfilling the goals, values, and mission of the Special Olympics health program.

Susanna Block, MD, received the award on behalf of Kaiser Permanente Washington during the Opening Ceremony of Special Olympic Washington’s 2018 State Spring Games, which took place in June. Dr. Block is a Kaiser Permanente pediatrician and urgent care physician. “It’s an incredible honor to receive the award on behalf of Kaiser Permanente Washington,” says Dr. Block. “The work that Special Olympics does is very exciting and inspiring. We look forward to working closely with Special Olympics Washington going forward.”

Dr. Block is also serving as a clinical director for the Healthy Athletes® program during the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. “We are so proud to be participating in the upcoming USA Games and supporting Special Olympics. The values of our two organizations are aligned, and the work we’re both doing helps build healthy communities and celebrate diversity, hard work, and achievement. It’s everything that we want to be representing. It’s the best of human nature,” she says.

Kaiser Permanente has also been nominated for the Golisano Global Health Award, which will be awarded at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
